I should probably just show them this picture. Obviously, some things (many things, if we're being honest) fall by the wayside. Sweeping up my scraps after sewing-- well, it's just not that high on the priority list, you know? (Do you see what he's doing? He's CRAWLING! Six months, one week and 2 days... just one day later than his big bro!)
This is what I was sewing: a Daddy-shirt re-fashion. It didn't go all that well. I a) did not use a pattern, even one I traced out onto newspaper beforehand and b) didn't measure the baby or the pieces before I cut them out. So it took hours and hours and was much, much too small. I'm still working on this one, though. I love all the cute re-fashions of menswear for girls, but as a mama to boys, I'm sadly aware of how few cute things are out there for boys. I'm here to
remedy that.

Finn has spent plenty of time gumming cloth scraps too. I keep them in a basket where he has ready access to playing with (or eating) them. I can't believe JH is crawling! What a big boy he's getting to be! Plug away...we're so excited for you!
I've been wondering what happened to all the boys' clothes. You said you needed boy models, but I see no boy clothes! That's another thing on my "to do" list. I have some cheapo material to start playing with, but I need some inspiration...
he's adorable! i can imagine how you do it all! if you are at all like me (and i have no clue if you are), the sewing time is unwind, just-you time. a little break in the mamma-ness!

Good golly... he's just too darn cute! Crawling... now you're in for it. There's a pattern for that outfit by "The Children's Corner" and it has 3 individual sizes per pack, no tracing (6mo, 1yr, 2yr). I think it's called the "Jeffrey" or something like that. I bet they have it at that shop in Winson Salem called "A Stitch in Time"... or something close to that. It's over there by the country club section- a knitting and fabric shop. They have a butt load of patterns. I'm full of "half the details" info, aren't I?

I have a son and totally agree with you that there just isn't as much out there for boys. And don't feel bad; I sew the same way...no patterns, just concepts! Some work, some don't but they're all fun--even if you end up giving it away :)

Your home sounds beautiful. I want to live on YOUR street from the way you describe it! You wouldn't happen to be Episcopalian would you? My old church in Jacksonville, FL just got a new priest. SHe had been the priect at a church in Greensboro for quite a few years before they found her.
Anyway, I am very interested in Montessori. I currently teach reading to children with learning disabilities, but I have used some Montessori tactics for certain students (just from reading books on Montessori-- no formal training). It's fascinating.

I graduate AU in 2006 (i'm only 25!)... How bizarre-- two NC bloggers who are AU graduates in English AND Episcopalians! We just don't agree on economic policy. Oh well-- I am definitely in the minority of English majors and Episcopalians on my economic policy views. I am getting accustomed to it!
