Melissa, Melissa, quite contrary...

this is how my garden grows this week!
The fruits and veggies are doing great-- it's the flower portion of things has me contrary this year.  We've had so much rain, and in our (heavily ammended but still clay) soil things are drowning left and right.  I'm hoping for warmer temperatures and a tad less rain... not what you usually hear from a Southerner in June!

The blueberries are doing their 'thang.  I expect to get a pie-full off my three bushes.

The cucumbers are going like gangbusters.  Too bad my five plants are pickling cukes, not eating cukes.  Note to self: must master the art of pickling.

And the sungolds are on their way in!  My neighbor brought his in for the first time tonight, so maybe I'll have some ripe by the weekend.  I love nothing on earth more than a tomato salad with fresh basil and balsamic vinagrette...

Thankfully, my hydrangeas somehow turned themself from pink to blue, saving me the headache of pH testing my soil and/or burning my hands off with lime...

Gardenias=perfection in my book.

I don't normally allow orange and yellow flowers into my garden (I'm a total color snob.  Pinks, blues, purples and whites only, please!) but these huge swaths of daylilly at our curb make me surprisingly happy.

Hopefully more eye candy to come in the next few weeks...

We ate my pickling cucumbers last year! Just pick them early enough that they're not bitter, and they're just fine. I was going to pickle last year until I accidentally killed my plants with my pumpkin plants. Oops! I was going to go for fridge pickles, though. Hoping to try this year, but my cucumbers are not doing well at all. I'm hoping they'll catch up soon!

It doesn't look like your flowers are drowning to me! What more could you need this time of years than gardenias, hydrangeas, and daylillies?

Gardenias are my absolute favorite :)
