Well, huh

Hello there, friends!  As I recover from a nasty infection (the source of which is as of yet undetermined, but I seem to be responding to treatment, so that is good) I find myself with many hours to kill poking around the internet.  A new dining table is on my mind-- I found the most amazing fabric at Printer's Alley here in Greensboro, and I'm saving up for an all-new space in 2011.  I've been scouring Craigslist and all my favorite haunts for a table that is long, rustic, and solid wood.  Oh, yeah-- and cheap.  You know me.

And where, of all places should I find just what I'm looking for, but IKEA?!
I'm going to have to check it out in person, but I've been happily surprised by how much I like our Ikea furniture.  (so far just this and this).  I think it's especially fun when you mix it in with higher-end and vintage pieces, so it doesn't seem so--well, IKEA-y.  I saw mention of a technique for applying stain and wax in the latest Martha that might make it even cooler, too.

For more pictures of IKEA mixing with other styles, check out this post from Jennifer at The Newlywed Diaries on Southern Living's Idea House kitchen outfitted with IKEA.

Have a great weekend!

That table looks great! We really like our Ikea furniture too, more than I would expect. :) I hope you feel better soon! I felt guilty about not getting back to you about this week until I got your comment about being sick. Elizabeth started an after-school class at Sawtooth today AND Paulie and Philip had a school open house tonight. Next week, for sure!

Love it! I am with you-- always unsure about IKEA, but everything I have gotten I LOVE. I have been surprised how sturdy and comfy our sofa is. It's IKEA.

Good post at Newlywed. And what's this about applying stain and wax? To give it a more rustic feel I suppose? Sounds like a potentially genius notion!

I'm pretty sure that is my table from Ikea, if you want to come check it out. :P
